Reflections of the Week

A simple, sweet, but also meaningful Valentine’s idea

2010-02-03 19:37 (comments: 0)

As I was flipping through a parenting magazine a few weeks back, I came across a simple Valentine's idea.  I had been searching for a simple, but meaningful gift idea for both my husband and my son for weeks and the inspiration had not yet hit me.  The idea from the magazine was brilliant.  Essentially take a box of chocolates and under each piece of chocolate, place a slip of paper that explains one of the reasons you love that person.  Depending on the number of chocolates in the box, your loved one could get many different reasons.  I felt that the simplicity of this gift belied the beauty of the messages.  I often have difficulties expressing how I feel about those I love, and this would help me provide a daily dose of how I feel - in a simple note - to the two men in my life.  I felt by making a list of the things I love best about both my son and husband, I could more easily tackle the over all message of telling them how I love them.  Plus, I could keep a copy of this list of items for myself, to help remind me to never take my family for granted.  Not only this, but the chocolate is a wonderful delivery system, as both of them love chocolate.   How simple, sweet, but also meaningful.  So, armed with my 2 boxes of chocolate, I can't wait to get started!
