Reflections of the Week

Carefree

2011-10-22 12:47 (comments: 0)

I hope you had a nice, relaxing start of the autumn and perhaps you even had a few days of vacation during which you left all your worries behind you. One doesn’t think too much but enjoys the moment, has open eyes for the beauty of nature, and also open ears for sounds around us or the words of another person. Carefree!

To be as carefree as a child again, wouldn’t that be great? We wouldn’t have to care about having a job tomorrow, or how we pay bills. We would not be scared about getting sick or becoming a nursing case in old age. We could be joyous about our closest relatives going on a trip without thinking about all the things that could happen. The heart failure or cancer of our grand-parents would not poison the joy of getting older. We would passionately go about new ideas or projects without the “yes but …” voice in our head which keeps us from pursuing them.

What actually are worries? Worries are something like a negative foretelling which has nothing to do with reality. We paint a picture of possible problems and dangers in the future, but are neither able to know what will happen or to change anything until the situation actually occurs! Until then however, these phantasms rob our courage, the anticipation, the confidence, the enthusiasm and the ability to live in the now – the only time we can influence anything! Worries paralyze us!

Instead of worrying it is better to apprehend the situation, evaluate it and then act … also in view of the future. For example, if you have a family history of a certain illness which could affect you, it is better to get informed, to clarify and then plan the next steps – but to be worried sick does absolutely nothing! If you have financial worries, they will not be alleviated by worrying about them, but rather by taking a comprehensive look at the facts of the situation, developing a strategy and then executing it.

So, my tip for you is to become conscious when you are worrying, thus weakening yourself and follow the stand of: “Don’t worry – live in the now”!

Quotes

There is no use worrying about things over which you have no control, and if you have control, you can do something about them instead of worrying.

StanleyC. Allyn

Do not anticipate trouble, or worry about what may never happen. Keep in the sunlight.

Benjamin Franklin

If we spend our time with regrets over yesterday, and worries over what might happen tomorrow, we have no today in which to live.
