Reflections of the Week

Does your calendar speak volumes?

2013-01-16 17:55 (comments: 0)

Are you beginning this year slowly or are you already swamped with new appointments, to-do lists and little time for yourself? What is in the focus of your attention: the mundane stuff or the important things?

Here I'd like to ask you a question which I asked one of my clients and which really shook him up (and that already at the beginning of the year!):

What is most important to you in your life?

Take a look at all aspects of your life and identify 3 or 4 things which are most important. Write them down. Do it now before you continue reading. Success and clarity don't come from reading alone, they come from taking action!

What have you written down?

My client wrote down these things:

Family (my children, my wife, my siblings etc.)

Having a meaningful life

Financial security

Having the important things written down we then looked at his diary to see where he had already planned the time for these important goals. We found almost nothing planned for the family (trips, cinema, romantic date with his wife, playing with the kids etc.). There wasn't much on the subject of health, either. And when I asked him when was the last time when he reflected on what brings meaning to his life he just gave me a blank look.

We live in a society which puts too much value on the success and money, and leaves little room and time for other things. Many people spend 8-14 hours at work every day and then when they come home they just want to have a quiet evening.

How do your evenings look like? How much time do you have in the evenings and how do you use this time?

I would like to inspire you to making the 2013 a more meaningful year: a year in which you focus more on the things that are really important to you.

Plan activities which will help you improve in your important areas. Ask yourself more often whether you are doing something that brings meaning into your life and if not, what could you change?

I wish you that at the end of this year your calendar will speak volumes about a fulfilling life!

A life of reaction is a life of slavery, intellectually and spiritually. One must fight for a life of action, not reaction.

Rita Mae Brown

I invite people to examine their lives without negativity, knowing that it's scary, but that not doing it is even scarier.

Barbara De Angelis

You cannot change anything in your life with intention alone, which can become a watered-down, occasional hope that you'll get to tomorrow. Intention without action is useless.
