Reflections of the Week

Should I listen to what I’ve got to say?

2012-01-29 08:33 (comments: 0)

I had a good laugh after one of my coaching sessions yesterday. Everything went well and we achieved a significant change of perspective, we challenged assumptions, we recognized the behavioral patterns and we set clear goals. So what was so funny?

After every coaching session I write down the most important findings and the discussed issues. As I was doing this yesterday, I realized that the advice I had given my client was as important and useful for me as it was for him!

Have you ever given somebody advice or feedback that you should have taken on board yourself? How aware are you of this? How honest are you about it with yourself?

This week try to reflect every evening, or after every good conversation, on what you should have listened to, instead of just giving your advice to somebody else. Take this with some humor, and perhaps you will be able to take your own advice and tackle some of your own issues!

Have fun and keep an open ear until my next newsletter!

People who ask our advice almost never take it. Yet we should never refuse to give it, upon request, for it often helps us to see our own way more clearly.

Brendan Francis

Advice is very easy to give, and even easier not to follow, so I don't fool with it.

I give myself, sometimes, admirable advice, but I am incapable of taking it.
