Why is Purpose the hot topic for 2018?

As a Coach and Workshop leader I work with people and teams on many issues. Some of the key topics are stress, motivation, communication and engagement at the workplace. More and more people report to me that they are hanging in there or surviving, rather than striving and companies, families and communities feel the difference and see the success going down.

We tried to look at behaviors with the DISC profile and then at strengths with the Strengthfinder and it all helped to place the people better or have teams work better together, but we still don’t get people to fully show up and give their all without burning out. In the last few years the trend towards Purpose has evolved and more and more people, companies and thought leaders are agreeing on the importance of intrinsic motivation and learning how to switch people on like a light bulb. Maybe instead of measuring engagement at the workplace and finding ways how to get more out of the employee, we need to look at the individual purpose profile of each employee and then see how we can help them to wake up, to understand what they need, to feel fully alive and inspired and then drive success with a workforce that happily give their all and go beyond what we thought possible by being intrinsically motivated, better connected and feeling fulfilled by the impact they are making. In the past only the top leaders had coaches to go on a soul search to find their authentic path, today we have a new tool to scale this and make it accessible to every person in your organization or to you privately. Research has shown that purpose-oriented workers are 64% more likely to find fulfillment in their jobs – this will reduce stress and absenteeism a lot! 51% purpose-oriented workers are more likely to have stronger relationships with co-workers, customers and clients. Well that will create more and better business right here, not to mention the more intact private relationships which will bring more stability as well. Through Imperative’s research of more than 100,000 employees they have identified the business impact of purpose on organizations can lead up to 600% higher performance over 10 years. Now if that does not speak for itself!?
